Hiya folks, it's me, @Haplap.
I've been admin for awhile now. Nearly eight months if I was to be precise. But like the saying goes, what goes up must come down. Get it? Because bird? Ah, whatever.
To say this with a serious tone, I am going to be stepping down from my staff position. I apologize to those who see this as a shot straight out of the blue, and I agree that I should have been more transparent and vocal with my feelings so this would be less of a surprise. I've always enjoyed Antares, both the community and the server, so it was distressing to find myself increasingly disengaged with the playerbase and disinterested in the server as time ticked on. In recent days, managing Antares has become a chore to me; I lack the passion and drive to truly benefit the community.
I would have liked to silently packed my things up and become a regular 'ol user again, and I would have if I wasn't leaving a gap in the staff team. Currently, if I was to up and...
With thanks to our friend Apple on the discord (for lack of a forum account), they handed us over some of their mods to enhance the server with neat features that many of you have been wanting for quite some time. So let's hop right into it!
Before I start on this, i'd like to note that the chat tab mod we've been will only let you see commands in the 'OOC' tab, so I changed it quickly to allow it in all tabs. If you don't mind switching tabs, feel free to use the old one, otherwise, get the new one here!
To see what commands you have available to you, type /applehelp into chat and press enter. This is what you'll get:
The playercounter command doesn't work currently, but that doesn't matter, and you'll see why later. The attempt, roll, and coin commands are...
Tired of moving your ship from place to place? No longer, as we've finally made it easier for folks to travel around on the server!
Pictured above is the handy ticket-giving device in question, sitting in the hanger on Station Caelestis. It will allow you to purchase tickets for the taxi to take you around the local colonies! It's very simple to use, just press 'E' and follow the on-screen instructions for a snappy ride to your favorite hangout. Enjoy!
Hello ladies and gents. You may not be aware, but we recently had a member of staff step down from the team. Obviously, this leaves us with an opening. This run of the apps, however, we're looking for active members of the community, previous staff experience or not, to step up to the plate. The team needs fresh faces willing to be active in the community, so don't be shy about tossing your hat in the ring!
We'll be accepting applications for a week's time, ending on 2/9/17, or possibly earlier. To apply, simply send us a message in the staff applications forum! There's no form to follow, simply tell us a little about yourself and why you think you'd be a good fit. Good luck!
Hello everyone, the rules have recently been updated and should be read to not confuse yourself regarding the new and old ones.
They can be found on the Forums at this link:
If you have any queries regarding these rules, contact either @Smokestack or @Haplap for more information! Have a good Tuesday!
It's been awhile since we took your feedback and users requested we gather an event team, but we certainly didn't forget about it! The general idea, for those unaware, is that we gather a team of users who are willing to work on events for the server, allowing them to piece together regular activities for the community. It would hopefully spur activity and possibly set up for a larger storyline.
To apply, simply toss us an application in the staff application forums stating that you'd like to be on the event team and a sentence or two on why wouldn't hurt either. Team members will get a nice little channel on discord to talk and keep things together. We'll be taking anyone willing to put in the time and effort to be on the team. People who can sprite, write, build, and make custom items would probably find themselves to be useful. While we aren't being picky with who gets in, i'd recommend making sure you have the time and motivation to do it before signing up.
Heya folks! As you're likely aware, our staff team recently had an Admin step down, leaving us with a few new gaps in the team. In order to plug these holes, we have promoted @Haplap (hi hello) to Administrator and will be opening Moderator applications to the public. Feel free to apply any time from now to Saturday, November 12th (11/12/16) and you will be taken into consideration.
As many know our server follows its own lore that spun off Chucklefish's lore from way back in the day. The server has since then created its own history with colonies and events and the people in it have created their own vast narratives as well.
Looking at our lore, the staff feels like we should reflect on it to see if what we have right now is the direction we want to be heading. Otherwise, we are open to suggestions as to what direction the Antarans want for the server.
This could mean anything really. We want to create an environment where all can roleplay in and have fun doing so. If you feel RP is currently slow, give us your opinion and/or give us your solution to help us realign the server's direction down the right path.
Basically. in this thread give us opinions on the server direction and your ideas on what can be done to the server to make it better. This can be changes in the overall world, a minor setting change, or lore upgrades.
The suggestion that gets the...
With Angre now having stepped down from his position as Head Administrator, I have been promoted in his stead. I've been the Head Administrator here before during some tough times in Antares, so I'm sure I'll be able to keep his alive and strong once again.
With my promotion to Head Administrator and Angre stepping down, the staff team is left unbalanced. With this @FoRgE has been promoted to Administrator to keep the admin trinity. @Coolguy has been promoted to Head Moderator in Forge's stead and a position for moderator has been left open. This mod position will be open for applications at a later date.
As you know it's been quite a while since we've used the server for productive roleplay, and has dropped the activity by a large amount. As such, we've been working on a plugin to replace the once removed Planet Chat feature that Chucklefish removed and is now re-adding in their next update. In the mean time we have developed our own plugin, and it is indeed functional! (To some degree.) The plugin itself is an experimental release, meaning it is unstable. Take this into account when roleplaying. If the plugin crashes, inform a member of staff. The server will be down for 5 minutes prior to the plugins installation at 6PM EST, so bare with us.
Have a pleasant roleplay experience,
As most of you may know, the staff and our Lore team have been working hard on the completion of racial lore and technology lore. We've reached the Novakid who have largely been a troubling race to write lore for due to their less-than-concrete backstory compared to the other races. Because of this we have two different takes on the Novakid lore. We have done a strawpoll on discord to gauge interest in a new take and we now have another vanilla take on it to compare with.
Reconus's version: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Bg8ovclVXvdP0Oc8neAvR7UvMDF7rhk5-yodD-XPH4Y/edit It is a remake of the Novakids.
Khaltor's version: https://www.antaresroleplay.com/threads/novakid-lore-summary-a-first-draft-khaltor.12232/ It is a vanilla elaboration of the space cowboy Novakids.
Both takes are drafts, meaning that they are unfinished works. Do not read them as finished documents.
Please be sure to read both lore threads if you are going to vote. Voting will...
This post is outdated, we do not require users to post colony plans here any longer!
Hey everyone! We all know that 1.0 is smacking us in the face with a nice and delicious WIPE. Of everything. Yeh. Woo.
Anyway. We've heard lots of talk about people planning new colonies post-wipe, and ... well, that's pretty much it. There's a LOT of them, it sounds like. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- But hey, some public awareness and tracking might prove useful.
We'd appreciate if everyone here could post in this thread with a brief synopsis of the colony they plan to establish. People with similar ideas might want to team up and work together on a single project rather than spread themselves out -- who knows!
Other staff are encouraged to edit this post and updated the below list with the posted information & user tag....
Heya, peeps, quick announcement here. Three days from now, on the twenty-third of this month, the forums will be down for maintenance. We don't have an estimated amount of time for how long this maintenance will last, but it should hopefully increase forum loading speed and optimize things on the back end.
On an unrelated note, our estimated date for updating the server to 1.0 is the twenty-ninth of this month, nine days from now. This is seven days after the release of 1.0, and should hopefully give us plenty of time to learn about any game-breaking issues with the next update and prepare or delay as needed, should any game-breaking issues exist. That being said, this update day is not set in stone, and the date is still subject to change if necessary.
That should be all for now, folks, just gonna keep this short and simple. If anyone has any questions about either matter, feel free to post them and we'll do our best to answer.
Regarding the 1.0 Update, the Staff Team has finally come to a decision. Since a large portion of you wished to remain on our current version, we will be delaying the Update by at-least one week. (This date is subject to change, possibly shortened to 2-3 days if need be.) This is to check for any game-breaking bugs and to ensure our Planet-Chat Server Plugin is compatible with the 1.0 Server. The extra week should allow you to wrap up any major Roleplay that is necessary within a reasonable time. A second announcement will be released later on regarding further information, if needed.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
For a while, several weeks in fact, the rules regarding custom race characters have been tightened to include ANY character that is not a vanilla race. This means robots, AIs, androids, or anything of the same ilk fall under the same jurisdiction as non-vanilla aliens. Unfortunately, when this change was made, there were already a lot of these characters in circulation. It didn't seem fair to disallow their use at the time, and people were simply told to apply for new characters only. After a while, though, this system highlighted a different problem. How could we tell who is an old character and who is new and needs approval?
In response to this, from this moment onward any character (pre-existing or new) that is anything except a vanilla race needs to submit an application. Any characters currently being played will be allowed to continue without approval until the 19th, which should give plenty of time (at least a full day) to write and submit an...
After the update I will be resigning from the staff team. The reasons for this are many, but the leading cause is that I am unhappy with the server in general. I put a lot of time in and get very little in return that isn't stress, and all my time doing staff things or just playing on the server is starting to negatively effect my health. Some of you know I've been having ongoing hospital visits lately, and I really shouldn't be staying up until 8am because people are arguing in discord over petty shit. I also feel like I may be outgrowing this community. I am a lot older (several years) than the majority of this server and I think it is starting to show. The often immature and hormonal vibe is beginning to grate on me, and I'd rather do without it in my life. Lastly, I'm none too pleased with how this update is being handled and want little to nothing to do with it. I've tried to do things the way I felt was right and haven't been able to, and I don't much feel like cleaning up...
Step 1. Open your Steam library.
Step 2. Right click Starbound, go to properties, click.
Step 3. Click the 'local files' tab, then click 'browse local files'.
Step 4. From here, navigate to the folder which contains the 'starbound' folder (default is 'common' when installed via steam).
Step 5. Copy the entire Starbound folder to another location (desktop, documents, anywhere that isn't Steam.)
Step 6. Run the appropriate starbound.exe (win32 if windows, etc) from this folder, or create a shortcut to it.
If you do this, Starbound will run from this folder and not use steam, and will function even if starbound updates on steam. To check if it works, click steam after you've launched the game and see if it is displaying 'playing starbound' on your friends list. If it isn't, you've done it correctly.
Hi, I'm not really an announcement writer, so I'll keep this short, sweet, and to the point. Recently, the server had an incident regarding a pie that induced arousal and then anger in those who ate it. I will be addressing the decision made regarding said pie.
There was a large question within the staff team of 'Does eating a food mean you consent to whatever effects the person who provided said food decides it does without informing you first?' and the answer is no. Therefore, we will be preventing further instances of this.
The next question is; Did the effects of said pie introduce any interesting roleplay and development, or did it just interrupt and overall be unacceptable? The answer to that is a mixture. Character development resulted, but the arousal part served no good purpose except making us have to hand out warnings. The anger part, while the consent was dubious at best, was fine.
Therefore, we will be preventing further events of this purpose unless every person...
I just wanted to give you all a quick heads up, the server will be down tomorrow (5/22) for maintenance starting at around 3 PM EST. It should only take about two hours; the maintenance is needed to improve the back-end of the server and hopefully make managing things server-side much smoother for the future.
I apologize for the short notice, I'd usually like to give a heads up at least a full day in advance, but unfortunately time got away from me. I hope this'll do though, and once it's done, we can all carry on!
That's should be all for now folks, thanks for your time.
